The Crawford rule has been introduced to limit the use of the doubling cube in critical situations. It is an optional rule but a sensible one. It states that if one player has come within one point of winning the match, the game that follows is played without the doubling cube. If the player who is losing wins this game the doubling cube is again being used. Imagine a situation 4-3 in a five point game. Without the Crawford rule the losing player could blindly double on his first turn becuase he has nothing to loose anyway. The Crawford rule ensures that no weird doubling cube action is taking place in backgammon.

So, if the doubling cube has been used twice and number 4 is facing up a single win will give the winner four points. For example, the player won with a gammon with the doubling cube showing four he scores 4 x 2 = 8 points.

In part 1 we talked about online gaming and your children, including FPS games and exposure to violent content. We wrap up this week by talking about RTS games, MMORPGs and the additional threats of addiction and social predators.

RTS stands for Real Time Strategy. Strategy because these games generally take a much larger perspective, casting the player as a general or commander of an army or even the leader of a civilization rather than as a single person. Real Time because the action moves forward whether the player acts or not. The alternative to Real Time is turn-based strategy, where each player moves in turn, taking whatever time they need. Turn based games tend to have deeper strategic components and complex non-military progressions that make them less popular with children. RTS games are a relatively benign genre, as they abstract the violence and conflict out to at least the unit level, removing much of the graphic gore found in FPS games and reducing it to numbers and lost units. They also tend to have complicated decision structures, making playing them a good exercise in critical thinking. Those same quick, complex decisions make this type of game difficult to look away from, particularly if the player is competing online where there may not be a pause button. Due to the less graphic content, this type of game doesn’t require as intense parental scrutiny as some others may, but it’s a good idea at least to casually observe a game and possibly to learn what the loading screen looks like so you can tell when “Just a minute” means “I’m in the middle of something,” and when it means “I just don’t want to do whatever you want me to do.”

The Xbox360 (pronounced as “three-sixty”) is Microsoft’s replacement to its original video game console. The video game was formally launched on the MTV Channel last year, May 12, 2005, to be exact. However, formal release of the video game was made almost six months later, on November 22, in North America and in Puerto Rico. There are two different configurations of the Xbox360 in most countries, namely, the Premium Package, priced at USD $299, and the Core System, with a market value of USD $399. The latter is not available in Japan though. Nevertheless, Microsoft is offering an identical package which it sells at Y37,900. The price has naturally drawn several negative criticisms, particularly from Japanese customers, since they said that they are able to purchase the game’s smaller package at a much lower price in other countries. I started playing World of Warcraft about 10 months ago as I was intrigued by the amount of media coverage this game has. You have probably heard the story about a guy who played the game day and night without any sleep and then finally collapsed! The only thing about World of Warcraft that really gets me is how difficult the game is, although I suppose this is where the fun lies as well. It is no easy task to race from level 0 to 70 and does require a lot of dedication and hours played.

If you have been playing World of Warcraft for anything more than 5 minutes you will already know that it is one tough game. This article will give you some tips and tricks that will help you race through the levels as a Horde player.

The first thing you should bear in mind is not to worry to much about equipment especially in the lower levels as I have got many horde and alliance players to level 70 and the equipment like weapons, armour etc.. Really did not help as much as you think it might.

This game is a far cry from the text based RPG games that I used to play as a kid and has millions of subscribers around the world. The main thing to remember with a game like WOW is they are made so you never complete everything as they want you to keep on paying the fee to stay a member every month.

So if you want to get to level 70 as fast as possible then I would suggest looking around for a good World of Warcraft Horde Guide or an alliance one if you are playing as an alliance character. There are a few out there but the one that really sticks out is called Joana’s Horde Leveling Guide and the reason being is that this guide was created by a speed runner for World of Warcraft, meaning that when a new server is created this guy is normally one of the first to level 70.

The main thing to do in the early levels is just quest like mad. You should have no problem completing the early quests that get you from 0 to 10 as they are done within the training zone, but you should not stop there I would say carry on questing solidly until you are at least level 30 and then start doing some other stuff like instances and so on.

Another thing you should remember to do is get loads of quests at once. You should not just accept one quest and run off to complete it but instead make sure that you pick up all the quests you can as you can hold up to 25 in your log and you will also find that a lot of them are completed in the same area so you will end up handing in all of them together and getting loads of XP for them!

Although you can use resources like Thotbot to find out all the details of a quest it can mean that you have to swap between the game and the web constantly to get details on what you need to be doing.
